Before you decide about what domain name you want to buy. You must first be sure that it is available to register. You can do this by searching the Internet. This is called a Whois search.

What does detagged mean?

A DETAGGED domain is effectively in "suspension". It cannot be used for email or a website but at this time it is not available for anyone else to register. Eventually, if the Registrant does not reclaim it, it will be released back into the marketplace for anyone else to register on a first-come, first-served basis.

A 'tag' is the reference code of the domain name management company with Nominet, the .uk domain name authority. All active domain names have a tag which indicates the company which is managing it for the registrant. If a domain name is DETAGGED, it means that the company that previously held the tag no longer does so. This could be because they have gone out of business, had difficulties in contacting the registrant and have passed the responsibility to Nominet.
